Teaching Computational Thinking In and Through Nature

EDC 91 Supervised Instructional Experience in Education I

Artifact Description: This artifact is a resource – a how-to guide that I hope sparks other ideas pertaining to teaching computational thinking without technology but, instead, in nature and in an authentic, hands-on, student-centered manner. It is designed for teacher candidates, teachers, school leaders, policy makers, and instructors working with Education students at any level.

Learning Goals: Students will be able to produce well-written lesson plans and oral presentations.

  • Identify and apply the fundamental concepts and methods of curriculum development in creating hands-on activities for early childhood students.
  • Analyze, adapt and infer learning techniques from master teachers.
  • Analyze and interpret teacher strategies through observation (videos).
  •  Identify Next Generation standards within the disciplines.
  • Use critical thinking and analysis when writing, reading and speaking.
  • Engage in self-reflection to evaluate performance and progress.
